The rope 'B' that is our logo reflects the town of Bridport's rope and net-making history, stretching back centuries. For a brief summary of Bridport's rope and net-making history see: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dorset/content/articles/2008/10/16/bridport_rope_industry_feature.shtml#:~:text=It%20started%20in%20the%20middle,the%20growing%20ship%20building%20industry. See also the short film archived by the BFI: player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/watch-rope-and-net-making-in-bridport-1962-online. Bridport is also home to Britain's oldest family business - R. J. Balson and Son, butchers - a business that dates back to 1515. So Bridport is synonymous with business, work and industry and the town's name is ideal for this JLH Media imprint. Of course, I also happen to have grown up in West Dorset a few miles from Bridport so this imprint and our other imprint Netherbury Books are close to my heart.

Bridport is a seaside town and rope and net-making is an industry of the sea so it makes sense to start our publishing list with a revision guide for those training to be deck officers in the merchant and defence navy. Our home page picture, Helping Hands by Harry Tuck, also relates both to work and to the sea, showing men and women working together to pull in the nets.

The painting that heads our Blog page is by Albert Edelfelt and it is called Kööpenhaminan ankkuripaikalta II [From the port of Copenhagen II].
The picture also relates to rope and training, as well as to the importance of a tidy ship and taking pride in your work.
